Thursday, February 4th, 2010Don’t worry, it’s not real. I was playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 and as it was pretty close to the 3rd of Feb (day 13), I thought it would make quite a good photo for the project…well, it’s different.
This is mid way through a Special-Ops level set in Russia; It’s a stealth mission where you have to sneak through without getting discovered…or snipe everyone and their dogs and get through the level with no one standing. Either way, it’s pretty intense and a very enjoyable bit of escapism late on a week night.

Thursday, February 4th, 2010Noticed this tree on the way back from an excellent afternoon/evening in the pub, catching up with Pete, a good friend and ex colleague. I used to walk past this tree every day when I worked in town but never noticed if it had lights on it or not. It’s in Kingsmead Square in Bath. I needed a photo for the day, and this was it. I took a few shots but the bokeh version appealed most.

Thursday, February 4th, 2010This is probably my least inspired photo of the project. I forgot about the project and suddenly remembered late at night. This is the result.

My troll, bless him
I have had this Troll since 2002 when I was given it by one of the kids I used to work with when I was a Senior Support Worker at a place for kids with Aspergers Syndrome. Alun gave me the Troll as a leaving gift at my leaving party.
The Troll sits close to my work area at home and always has done. Something about their faces makes you smile. It also reminds me of a time in my life, before I got fully in to computers, when I did a job that directly affected the lives of those I worked with. I love what I do now but working with kids like them is a little more enriching, the input you have may stay with someone for the rest of their lives. With Web development, there is a feeling that at any time, the work you’ve done, the work you are very proud of, can be deleted, switched off or ignored. There is a certain lack of permanence to the work. I guess this keeps it fresh but I do sometimes miss working with Autistic and Aspergers folk.

Monday, February 1st, 2010If you have read any of the posts relating to the last couple of days of my 365 Project, you’ll know I went up to Epney in Gloucester for the night to get some shots of the Severn Bore and hang out with my mate Luke. We got up at about 7am to see a beautiful sunrise and a very ripe and full moon setting in the mist – both of which I failed to capture due to addled brain and disorientation. However, I captured this shot just after the Severn Bore had gone by. I hoped for a great photo of the bore but it wasn’t quite as spectacular as I’d imagined and none of the surfers really got very far. So this is my photo for Sunday:

Monday, February 1st, 2010I took the night off from working on Saturday and went to see my mate Luke up in Epney in Gloucester to catch the Severn Bore, as his parents back garden is right on the river. There was a bore due at 8am on Sunday. Luke and I spent a while out in the garden, smoking and drinking wine and I wanted to get a long exposure shot of the river, so set up my camera and tripod between the reeds on the bank of the river and took a few shots. I took a few exposures but this one at around 7m30s was the best; it’s not great and I think another 30s to 1m would have improved it but my battery was getting low and I wanted to save some for Sunday.

Monday, February 1st, 2010OK, catching up. After my lunchtime pub visit on Friday as part of my ongoing efforts to ensure I do not turn mad from being cooped up in my room, working for days on end and not seeing people, I was inspired by nice weather and snapped this shot of a pub that is quite local to my flat – Ye Olde Farmhouse. It looks pleasant and ‘ye olde worlde’ but I rarely go in there. Not sure why as it’s not a bad pub. The last time I was in there was about 18 months ago when a couple of mates and I went in for a drink at lunchtime for Lukes birthday. It ended in Luke and I drinking scrumpy cider and dropping shots of vodka into the cider. Not for the feint hearted really.
Anyway, there was no cider or vodka consumed on Friday and I managed to snap this shot of the pub. I like the lighting in this shot:

Monday, February 1st, 2010How behind am I?? Quite, is the answer. I haven’t posted since the 26th, which to be honest is pretty bad. I have managed to take a photo every day since the 26th, with the exception of the 28th. I have had my head completely absorbed in a last minute job for a client and on Thursday, I didn’t take a photo – shame on me! “You’re only letting yourself down”, “I’m very disappointed in you”, “You’re a failure!!” are all phrases that spring to mind. I’m not sure that I even left the house. Freelancing does that to you sometimes and for my own sanity, I allowed myself a couple of hours ‘Social integration’ time during Friday lunchtime when I met some of the folks I used to work with at Future Publishing. This time out and the lush weather we had on Friday, got my mind thinking about my 365 project and I am now getting back on track.

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010Snapped this on my way home today. Had to take Mandy, my mate to the hospital to have her broken leg looked at and after I’d dropped her home, I parked up near Victoria Park in Bath and walked the rest of the way home, via the Royal Crescent. I was only out for 10 mins or so and I think I only snapped 4 or 5 shots. I thought this was the best:

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010Day five:

Mandys cat, Zeb sitting by the fire.
Selected this as my day 5 shot as I had taken another one earlier in the evening when I was in Bristol, shortly after a successful client meeting and securing some new work for next month. I didn’t really like my first shot – it felt that I’d shot it out of desperation. The one I chose is of my mate Mandys cat, Zeb. He’s an old beast (16 i think) but looks good for his age. He rewarded me for taking his picture by coughing up a rather disgusting furball all over my trousers and jumper, which were on the sofa, just above my head. I can’t thank him enough for that gift.

Sunday, January 24th, 2010I’ve been mostly cooped up in my flat for the last week, working long hours and not getting much interaction with other humans or nature, so today I took myself off to the Westbury White Horse to have some photo fun. I was hoping to get some shots of the horse itself but once I got there, I decided against it and focussed on the sunset and the folks paragliding on the hill. It looked so peaceful up in the sky and must have been an amazing way to watch the sunset. They were like birds riding the thermals, so quiet and graceful.
I found a nice spot and sat quietly for an hour or so, slowly losing the feeling in my hands but really loving the silence and the atmosphere. I didnt really like the sunset shots i got this afternoon, although I will post a couple in a bit. Here’s my photo of the day:
