Looking out to Launcherly Hill
Two posts in an hour!! Steady Dave!
I spent much of the the May bank holiday chilling out down round where I grew up, catching up with friends and family. Had a great weekend and managed to get out on Monday with my camera, just a mile or so from where I grew up. I spent some time with my Dad on Monday afternoon and we took the dogs out for a walk on the levels. What had begun as a warm and overcast day, turned into a beautiful clear summers day, with the perfect amount of cloud to make the sky interesting. It was so nice to be back there – I realise, every time I visit, how much I miss it. The clean air, the smell of cow shit, green hills, flat landscapes with hills popping up in places. LUSH!

Looking over to King Tor from Whitchurch Common
It’s been a long time since I posted, due to work and life commitments but I think of posting most days but never do it as it seems like a very time consuming process. In reality, it’s not and I need to kick myself up the arse to do it more. So, anyhow, here’s my first post for a while:
A week or two ago, I spent a few days down in Cornwall with family and on the way back, after 3 days of grey weather, the sun shone and there were beautiful deep blue skys. I decided to detour from my normal route home up the A30 from Launceston, and went across to Dartmoor to do some photography. I am so glad I did as it was such nice weather, the Dartmoor Ponies had had foals and everything was lush.

Abbie Louise at near top speed
I recently had the good fortune to be asked to spend a few days taking photos on a clients yacht in the Mediterranean. I met Tony almost 10 years ago when I was asked to build a website for his business – a group of care homes for young adults in the Sussex & Kent areas. Long story short, I am still working with Tony and having looked after his company website (The Boulters) for around 10 years, we have developed a good working relationship and I have a great deal of respect and affection for Tony.

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010I have been waiting for this for a while now. I am flying out to Gibraltar tomorrow for four days photography on a yacht – a client of mine has just moved out there and is chartering his 58 foot motor yacht, ‘Abbie Louise‘. He needs some up to date photos for the website, so asked me to fly out and spend a few days shooting. I can’t wait! For various reasons, it’s been years since I left the UK and I need some sun, sea and to see some other places. I have never been to that neck of the woods, so am really intrigued by it all.
Anyway, I thought i’d better buy a new camera bag to replace my ailing Lowe Pro one I got with the camera 3 or 4 years ago. I got a Crumpler – they seem tough and well designed and after just a day of having it, I am well impressed! I’ve managed to fit two camera bodies, 4 lenses, all my power leads, accessories, a laptop, and a few other bits and bobs inside and its still small enough to take as hand luggage
– Here’s a photo:

All my camera kit for my trip to Gibraltar
Right, I’d better head off and get my train! I shall be uploading the fruits of my labour on my return on Monday.
Cheers

Monday, March 15th, 2010Happy Mothers Day!
Mother’s day is a funny day these days. It hasn’t been the same since 2005 when my mum passed away after a brief fight with cancer. It’s OK, this isn’t going to be a morose, depressing post…I hope. I usually buy a bunch of flowers to put on mums grave. It’s odd cause when you go to buy flowers on mothers day, there’s lots of people doing the same – buying bunches of supermarket flowers at inflated prices to take them round their mums for lunch. The checkout people always take the price off and ask if you want them wrapped – needless to say, I usually decline the offer of having them wrapped. There seems little point.

Monday, March 15th, 2010I stopped off at a pub for a quick pint the other day. I can’t remember where I’d been but I just had an urge for a nice pint of ale – the joys of being freelance
Was pretty nippy out. This is the best shot of about 5 I took that day. Pretty poor but hey, it’s a photo.

Monday, March 15th, 2010Walking back home from a client meeting in town, I grabbed this shot of The Circus in Bath. It was a very grey day, not a great deal of detail in the clouds and pretty flat light. I got a few shots and I think this was the best of a bad bunch. I was going to take photos of a traffic warden putting tickets on cars as he seemed to be enjoying it and I wondered if he’d like to have his deep joy recorded for prosperity. I’m not going to waffle on about anything in this post as I have 2 or 3 more to post today.
Here is the photo, thanks for stopping by. Stay classy, Intarnets.

Sunday, March 14th, 2010The other day (3 weeks ago) I went with my friend Mandy, to take a lovely little German Shepard to it’s new owners. Sheba, the dog, had been given to the German Shepard Rescue Centre as her owners weren’t able to keep her any more. Quite a sad story that I won’t go into now but Mandy did the assessment on the previous owners and had been asked to ensure the new owners and their other dog, Alpha (a gargantuan German Shephard), got on well with Sheba. Eventually, they all got on fine after a great deal of barking and such. I took some photos of Sheba whilst we were waiting for the new owners to turn up.

Sunday, March 14th, 2010I took this shot on the same day as the shots in this post. Taken on my way to the train station on a sunny Friday afternoon after finishing work early at 3Sixty.

Sunday, March 14th, 2010OK, so this should be day 30 or something but as I’ve been bad at taking pics everyday and not wanting to cheat on this project, I am posting in sequence, even if they are days or weeks apart. I think this project should be Project 730!
Anyway, I went up to Brighton to visit my mate, Ed for his birthday and also to take a few bits of furniture up for him as he’s recently moved house and relocated from Bath. Ed has a lush flat, just off the sea front about 5 mins walk from the Pier. I had a great weekend and it was great to see Ed again and meet his new-ish girlfriend.
Here’s Ed:
