Prior to my photography trip to Gibraltar, I had to go to Newport to get my passport renewed. My old one expired 3 years ago! Having spent a couple of hours in Newport, I was glad to take a drive up to Usk with my Dad and cousin Linda. We visited the Castle in the rain and all were very charmed by the place. Privately owned and a little ramshackle, it’s a wonderful place and definitely worth a visit. The keep is about 840 years old and other parts ranging from the 1400′s to 1700′s. Inside the castle grounds, there are a couple of rather territorial geese, a very chilled out sheep, 3 hens and this very regal looking Cockerel. My cousin wanted a photo so she could draw it at some point.
After visiting the Castle, we had a great lunch at the Nags Head in Usk. It’s been in the good pub guide for donkeys years and I can see why. Not my usual choice of pub – it’s more eatery than drinking pub, but the food was excellent, beer (a small selection of ales) very tasty and three of us ate and had drinks for under £40, which i thought was pretty good, considering the size of portions and the quality of the food. All meat from the local butcher, including the home made rabbit pie my dad had. They even had Pheasant, Quail, and a few other birds on the menu. Nice.
So, Newport = Meh! Usk = Lovely.

I’ve recently started a blog, the information you provide on this site has helped me tremendously. Thank you for all of your time & work.
Hi, I just thought I would post a comment and inform you that your page layout is really messed up on the Firefox browser. Seems to work ok in Internet Explorer though. Anyhow keep up the great work.
